At Ohau Point Seal Colony, meet the baby seal pups as they play under a waterfall and swim along the stream. Once nearly wiped out by hunters, these fur seals mature and grow in the safe environs of the stream before they are ready to go hunting in the ocean. Take the Ohau Stream and Waterfall walk to reach the pools where you can closely interact with friendly pups. The colony is located on private land, whose the owners organize guided seal swimming tours in the charming little bays of the peninsula.
Catch up with the local fur seals, blue penguins and dusky dolphins as they duck and dive around the scenic Kaikoura coastline.
You can access the The Kaikoura Trail from The Fairways and it takes you on a cycle tour of the Kaikoura district and gives you the chance to explore some of the places you don't see from the highway. Mt Fyffe and the Seaward Kaikoura Range watch over you for the entire trail, and you will get many glimpses of the ocean as you make your way around.
Only a short stroll away from the Fairways, Kaikoura’s golf course is nestled between the magnificent vista of the Seaward Kaikoura Mountains and the ocean waters of the Pacific Ocean.
